We are now participating in a Zelnorm clinical study.
Female patients with constipation or (constipation-predominant) irritable bowel syndrome who qualify are able to get monthly doses of Zelnorm supplied by the manufacturer.
Zelnorm was removed from the market last year after it was found to cause some heart problems in a very small number of elderly patients.
Many of you who had found it very helpful for constipation,
were very upset when it was no longer available. Others had had no good answers with available treatment options for constipation.
Entrance qualifications for the study include not having cardiac
risk factors, including smoking, diabetes, obesity, family history of heart disease, elevated cholesterol, or you are age 55 or older, and not being pregnant.
You must also fit the diagnostic criteria for constipation or constipation predominant IBS, without ay underlying complicating factors contributing to the problem.
If interested, call Jovana here, 212-879-4700, ext. 259.
She will let you now if you appear to qualify, briefly explain the pattern of required visits, and will get you a GI appointment with Dr. Yaffe.
