ROADSIDE DISTRACTIONS Artist's Statement: This work grows out of my constant distraction while traveling along country roads. My eyes are always
wandering, distracted by the space between roadway and roadside. I am following the visual interplay that occurs here, between the edges of nature and the delineation of the homestead. This is a relationship always in
flux, continually redefining itself, as elements of one encroach upon the boundaries of the other. Distracted by the aesthetic and cultural markings that reveal themselves, it is the bits and pieces that catch my eye.
It is along this edge, where nature's attempts to reclaim and humanity's efforts at homesteading are at odds with each other. |
