Prescriptions Are Regulated Drugs

Prescription drugs cannot be refilled indiscriminately. Anyone on a medication for an extended period of time should be monitored. The doctor may suggest that you come in for evaluation if you have not been seen for awhile, especially to evaluate your response to the medication, and to test for potential side effects.

Many drugs for chronic use can be prescribed for 90 days use, especially through managed care companies.

We will not refill prescriptions after 7 PM or on weekends.  This is NOT an emergency.  Please plan ahead an call during office hours, 8 AM - 7 PM. Mon-Fri.

Office Policy On Prescription Renewals

Please be advised that when you go in to see your doctor you get AS MANY REFILLS AS YOU NEED UNTIL YOUR NEXT APPOINTMENT.  This specifically refers to those medications that are prescribed by your doctor for chronic conditions or those you will be taking on a long term basis e.g. meds for high cholesterol, thyroid problems, blood pressure, chronic pain, etc.

Please, DO NOT SEND AN E-MAIL OR WALK INTO THE OFFICE JUST TO GET PRESCRIPTIONS RENEWED IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD A RECENT APPOINTMENT TO EVALUATE THE MEDS YOU ARE TAKING. Exceptions will be made for patients who were not given the appropriate amount of renewals at the time of their visit or were given a trial medication and would now like a full prescription.

Please read the following regarding CONTROLLED ( or what were formerly known as TRIPLICATE) PRESCRIPTIONS:

There are regular prescriptions and there are CONTROLLED PRESCRIPTIONS such as Xanax, Valium, Percocet & other Narcotics. New York State will not allow such controlled drugs to be called in or e-mailed to pharmacies. The prescription must be mailed directly to the pharmacy. Controlled drugs are regulated for a reason and we are required to monitor patients taking them, much more closely. The FDA no longer allows us to refill these by phone on a monthly basis. Patients must be evaluated in person for a controlled drug refill.

Procedure For Requesting Refills Through Mail-Order Services

If you have just started using a mail order prescription service, the first time you get a prescription from your doctor, mail it in to the pharmacy so you can be established in the system.

-Once you have an established account with the pharmacy and you need refills of a particular prescription, you can e-mail your request to your doctor for approval and provide the name of the mail-order pharmacy you use. If he/she approves the request, your e-mail will be given to one of the secretaries and the request will be faxed to the pharmacy/mail-order service you use. You do not need to fill everything out each time you need a refill for something. We have the names and fax numbers of almost ALL the major mail order prescription companies like MEDCO etc. in our data base
