4 DAYS PRIOR TO THE PROCEDURE Fill
prescription from your doctor for 28 Visicol tablets and 4 Dulcolax (bisacodyl) tablets (5mg). DAY BEFORE COLONOSCOPY or COLON SURGERY
Eat a light lunch then begin a clear liquid diet. Solid foods, milk or milk products are NOT allowed.
Clear Liquids Include – Juices without pulp (apple, white grape, lemonade), Water, Tea, Plain Jello (not red), Soda or non-carbonated soft drinks, Clear broth or bouillon, Ice Pops (not red) FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR COLONOSCOPY PREPERATION (FAILURE TO TAKE THE PREP AS INDICATED BELOW MAY RESULT IN A POORLY CLEANSED COLON AND POSSIBLE CANCELLATION OF THE
PROCEDURE). 1. At 5PM take 4 Visicol tablets every 15 minutes with at
least 8 ounces of any clear liquid until all 20 tablets have been consumed. Take the last dose of Visicol with 12 ounces of Ginger Ale. Remain close to toilet facilities.
2. At 8PM take 4 Visicol tablets every 15 minutes with at
least 8 ounces of any clear liquid until the remaining 8 tablets have been consumed. Take the last dose of Visicol with 12 ounces of Ginger Ale. 
3. At 9PM take 4 Dulcolax (Bisacodyl) tablets with at least 8 ounces of any clear liquid. 
After 4AM, one should not drink any more fluids, as we want your stomach empty when you get put to sleep.
IT SHOULD BE EMPHASIZED THAT ALL FLUID INTAKE, INCLUDING WATER SHOULD END FOUR HOURS BEFORE THE PROCEDURE.
If for some reason, you do not feel like you are cleaned out, call after 8AM, and we can delay the procedure by a couple of hours until we can get you clean.
It is a good idea to bring an extra pair of underwear. Menstrual periods, viral syndromes, or urinary infections do not interfere with the colonoscopy! Call if questions!!!
