Howard Roy Katz is principal of ArtBoxStudio, a multi-discipline design and photography firm specializing in
fashion, beauty and portraiture. Howard's extensive commissions by private and corporate clients include RJR Nabisco, Joan Rivers and Guardian Life. He has documented
the restorations of The Statue of Liberty, Cartier and St. Patrick's Cathedral. Howard has studied with Sally Mann, George Tice, Ezra Stoller and Lucien Clergue, with whom he
developed a close professional and personal relationship. Howard has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design as well as a Bachelor of Arts from Yeshiva University
in Psychology. While acquiring his B.F.A. in Environmental Design at Parsons, Howard was retained to photograph the interiors of the college for their archives. A native New
Yorker, Howard maintains his studio as well as his home in New York City with his wife Sharon and their children Amber and Jonathan.
Imagery Philosophy
"A die-hard romantic through and through, I search for
sensuality and intimacy in each frame. I have always been fascinated by the intricacies of light and shadow and their effects on the everyday world around me. My background in
architecture and psychology has set up a unique frame of reference with which I am continuously encouraged to challenge the symmetry and emotion that I believe are inherent in each form. Although photography began as an
architectural tool for me - a means of grasping and describing the physical - I believe I had been seeking to capture emotionally-charged images long before I was cognizant of my desire to create them." |
