Are you at risk for Osteoporosis? We perform bone density testing right in the office using a brand
new state-of-the art total body scanner. It takes under 15 minutes. You do not need to get undressed. The test measures bone density in the hips and spine. It is a painless, simple, and
comfortable 15 minute test that can be done as part of a physical exam, or you can essentially call and come in any time 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Bone density is greatest at age 30, and drops slowly from that point. Bone loss rapidly accelerates at menopause, leading to height loss, vertebral fractures and back pain, dowager's hump,
and the potential for increased hip fractures, and wrist fractures.
Osteoporosis is preventable! |

Osteoporosis is preventable with calcium, vitamin D, weight- bearing exercise, and good health habits. Smoking, having
infrequent periods due to excessive weight loss, steroid use, alcohol, low calcium intake, and menopause all lower bone density.Women with increased risk factors, with bone and rib fractures,
and with height loss, are entitled every 2 years to bone density testing. After menopause, all women are entitled to bone density testing every two years.
You do not need to be a patient in the practice to have a bone density study here. |

We perform this test on many women in the building and in the neighborhood, in many patients who bring their mothers with them for their appointments, and on
women who walk in with requests from their doctors to have the test done. Many people dislike the inconvenience of hospital radiology suites, or the impersonal setting of the radiologist office. Working with
Tamara, our technician, or Heather Canning, we try to make the procedure pleasant and efficient. At the end of the test, we give you immediate results, and if necessary, we will send a complete report to your personal
physician. We are happy to answer any questions. (Incidentally, medicare not only pays for the procedure, but physicians are criticized if they are not monitoring their patients every two years!) |
