Don’t Lose The Height Fight!

It has been estimated that the average 70-yr.-old woman loses
2 inches of height, and so does the average 75-yr.-old man!

The height is lost between the head and the hips. Legs usually remain the same length. Though foot arches may collapse over time, calluses usually compensate and legs remain the same length, according to several national studies. Hair height also diminish as one ages. But in some regions of the United States, particularly in Florida, this hair height may actually increase over time, particularly on the weekends, when there are guests coming.

Because the majority of height loss is between head and pelvis, and because there is usually no decline in volume, there is often an increase in abdominal girth. A bigger waist, a bigger belt size, gut bulge. Girth is an aesthetic problem not easily dealt with in women or men. There is rarely an advantage to girth. Especially if one is no longer involved in violent contact sports, such as football, and even then it pertains only to linemen.

So it is easy to conclude that for most of us, increased firth should be avoided at all costs! At all costs!! What are the costs of girth avoidance??

Calcium is cheap! Exercise is cheap. Bone density testing is cheap. All are very important in avoiding girth increase. As an added benefit, if you avoid girth, you get to keep your height -- without having to wear special shoes. And you don’t have to look farther up to your children as you age. And that protects your neck. We admit, that its hard to constantly exercise! We admit its hard to constantly eat calcium. But, its easy to get a bone density. Just call Simona!
